Hello Monday. An overcast morning to match my mood because the kids went back to school today after holiday break. Using the act of writing thank you notes to pull myself out of it and eating chocolate covered Oreos. Because apparently, eating dessert first thing in the morning can make you skinny. Who knew?! I’m not sure if the amount of dessert matters, but let’s not worry about that right now…

Hello Monday #Styled #FlatLay

I think it’s easy being married as well as being business owners to think that the goal setting is just for us as adults. How much debt do we want to pay off? How much savings do we want to build? What vacation or family experience would we like to plan for this year? My husband and I have been hard at work planning for the new year – what we will be working at during it and where we want to be at the end of it. However, with all of the clarity and direction that I have gotten from putting forth the effort and really deciding on what to cultivate over the next 12 months, I wanted the same thing for our family. I wanted that same direction and sense of purpose. So I wanted to share with you our family theme in 2017.

Once my husband and I knew we wanted to start this new tradition for our family, we started searching for a quote or scripture to give us inspiration and to help us find the right fit. With what we experienced last year and with everything else going on in the world, I wanted our focus to be on strengthening faith as well as something of comfort and peace. Especially for our children. We came upon the following scripture and knew then we wanted it to be our focus for this year:

“…Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.”

Joshua 1:9

We sat down with the kids, shared with them our new tradition and this year’s theme and we promised each other that we would remember. We would remember to be courageous and not afraid. We would remember to not lose hope when faced with trials. We would remember to keep the faith and know that we are not alone in the journey. I hand lettered the scripture onto our large chalkboard that hangs at the foot of our stairs, right where each of us will see it every morning. My hope is that it will be a constant reminder before we go out into the world daily.

As a mother and like so many of you, I go to bed with a prayer in my heart for my children. For them to be kept safe, for them to know who they are and what they stand for, to know that life is about experiences both good and bad and it’s what we take from those experiences that help us to continue growing and learning. The biggest part of that prayer for them, however, is for them to know that they have a Heavenly Father who loves them, knows them by name and who is with them always. That the feeling of loneliness or darkness never has to stay so long as they keep the faith.

For those of you who would like to begin this same tradition with your family or who would like to have this reminder in your own home, you can now pre-order this print over in my shop and they will begin shipping out January 18th.

I knew I loved them. And this reaction is why.

Eliminating some things from my diet for health reasons which means adding someone new ones in. I have never been a fan of sweet potatoes, but this recipe just might do the trick.

I truly love the idea and message behind this jewelry.

Is it strange that this is on my list to finally get right this year?

Hope you all have a wonderful and cozy weekend!
