Perhaps it’s the line of work I am in, but I am addicted to film. And marketing. The use of cinematography and finding just the right piece of music or the most artistic way to cut to the next frame. It gets me every time. And I love media for the ideas it can give us in business and in regards to marketing and messages. I haven’t ever done this before, but I figured I would share with you the best commercial ads from Superbowl 52. Well, at least in my opinion.
P.S. Videos on the blog from a mobile device aren’t playing well with each other at the moment. So if you are reading this from your mobile device, click on each video to view it directly in YouTube or view from your desktop computer!
The Kia commercial with Steven Tyler was absolutely genius. I’m a huge fan of him, but the idea of this commercial was so unique and not to mention the music was perfect.
This was such a brilliant play on Jurassic Park and Jeep did amazing with this one. Not to mention, Jeff Goldblum is kind of fantastic as well. SO perfectly done!
The best advertising and marketing is the story telling kind and the kind that pulls at heartstrings. This one by Toyota had me in tears within just the first five seconds.
And Budweiser. My goodness. We all love their Clydesdale spot so much for so many years, but I love how they mixed it up this year especially with all that we have seen happen. So well and so well though out. Story telling at it’s finest.
BEST ONGOING JOKE
Now, I know Tide did this too yesterday during the game, but Michelob and Chris Pratt? Oh. My. Word. Did you catch the second commercial where he was the extra throughout the whole thing? Be sure and watch the next two videos below – absolutely and ridiculously genius!
BEST SPORTS COMMERCIALS
Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a sucker for sports and while my favorite sports commercial of all-time will never change, I absolutely loved the artistry that went into Shaun White’s commercial and the Winter 2018 Olympics advertising. The music was perfect, his mood throughout, the mix of slowed down frames with regular action shots. So beautifully made.
And then Lindsay Vonn’s. Another great one for the upcoming Olympics. Perfect music pick and I love the flashback to childhood, the closeups of her scars and all that she’s been through. This is a great example of story telling in marketing and done brilliantly in only a minute!
I have absolutely no words for this next one. I was crying from laughing so hard…
BEST USE OF COMEDY
Oh, the Tide ads. I know this was a big favorite and how could it not be? Everything was absolutely perfect, not to mention HE was brilliant in it. Who knew from his character in Stranger Things?!
BEST USE OF CELEBRITIES
I know what you might be thinking. Why am I not mentioning the “Alexa Lost Her Voice” commercial, but it wasn’t my favorite. This one from the get go had my attention and it didn’t quit. Now, I do think the mix of both products in one ad and they way they played it in the middle wasn’t the greatest, but they redeemed themselves on the ending. But seriously? It makes you stop what you are doing for sure and kudos to both guys for pulling off mouthing those lyrics. They did it brilliantly!
BEST JOB IN BEING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
Seriously, how often do we talk about in business about being different, setting yourself apart and standing out from the crowd. Jeep again did a brilliant job at achieving this. This commercial wasn’t flashy, didn’t use any celebrity and didn’t even use music. They simply showed the product and placed themselves as the “anti manifesto”. So well done.
Did you have a favorite ad from this year? I would love to hear what yours was so be sure and leave me a message in the comments below. And go ahead and leave me a “heck yeah” below if you were so happy to see the Eagles take home the trophy – wink!
