If you have been here for awhile you know that this journey of entrepreneurship has been a solo one. For years I have handled all of the many things I add to my plate all on my own and in full transparency – sometimes I did it really well and other times not so much. There have been bumps, bruises, inconsistency and a lot of frustration as I navigated all the things. There has also been wonderful growth, learning and connecting as I have continued to build my brands. And this summer I, along with my husband in his business, have experienced a lot of growing pains. Yes, I also help manage my husband’s business. Have you ever heard the saying “you can’t do everything and do it well”? I have heard it a lot over the years and goodness, it took me a long time to catch on, but I finally really heard it. And I finally decided I was at a point to make some changes.
It can be scary as a business owner to make this kind of leap. I have a more controlling type of personality by nature and I am a perfectionist (I really don’t know how anyone lives with me) so I really had to fight hard against the other side of my brain telling me not to move forward. However, my gut knew it was time and my gut has never been wrong or quiet for that matter, but I am also not the best listener when I think I know what’s best.
So then enters Celeste. Out of nowhere. She knew nothing of me and my brand and we have no mutual friends (at least I don’t think). I read through her application and that night I told my husband, I think she’s the one. It intimidated me a little bit that she had spent time with other, bigger companies like ChatBooks and I worried that she would dive in with me and be like, huh? But then there went my gut again telling me that the most growth comes from being uncomfortable and the best living happens outside of our comfort zones.
We chatted on the phone the next day and within 24 hours I had officially asked her to join this crazy ride and she accepted. We have had several weeks together now and honestly? Everyone needs a Celeste in their life. She hasn’t missed a beat as she has jumped right into all of the things that go one here, brought ideas and suggestions to the table (which is so refreshing after being alone on everything for so long!), and she values organization and planning – a girl after my own heart!
She and her husband met in high school and have been married four years now. They also have a beautiful 10-month-old daughter named Lennon and the three of them just recently moved to southern California.
In order to make sure she feels right at home and that you have a chance to know a little bit more about her, I asked her to answer the following questions:
Where were you born? Orem, Utah born and raised on the playground is where I spent most of my days. (< And that right there is how I know we were meant to be.)
What are five random things people may not know about you? 1. I quote lines from “The Office” on the daily basis. 2. I studied communications at Brigham Young University and LOVED my time there (go cougs!) 3. I have a large pin collection that I started when I was 14. 4. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is hands down my greatest weakness. 5. In college, my husband and I had wedding gigs (he played the guitar and I sang).
If you had to eat one meal the rest of your life what would it be? Ahi Tuna Poke bowls! Lately I have become OBSESSED with them. Like really.. it’s a problem.
Favorite vacation spot? Anywhere tropical
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have three things with you, what would they be? A super cozy blanket (because I’m one of those people that is always cold). A can of Dr Pepper because why not? And the Lord of The Rings trilogy.. it would take me being stranded on island to want to read those books. #sorrynotsorry
And what is the best part about working for me? Kara is a SUPER organized creative who creates exceptional context on a variety of platforms. I love that I get to take part in sharing her beautiful messages, thoughts and photos to large audiences.
I’m so lucky to have this girl on my side and there is so much I am excited to bring you in the last half of 2018 and beyond with her help. Be sure and give her a warm and friendly welcome to the community with some love below!
